ReLeaf Petaluma

25 trees, two Saturdays

St. Vincent de Paul is partnering with ReLeaf Petaluma to bring 25 new trees to campus — Island Oak, Toyon, Incense Cedar, Catalina Cherry and other California natives, placed along Howard and Walnut, through the centre of campus, and near the garden. ReLeaf provides the trees, the plan and the expertise at no cost to the school. What they need from us is people.

Prep day — the big one

Saturday, November 7 · 9:00am–2:00pm · 25–30 volunteers

Before a single tree goes in, 25 planting sites have to be cleared: old stumps and roots pulled out, overgrown shrubs removed, ground cover cut back, and each hole opened up and made diggable. Some spots need a little work. Several need a lot.

This is the day that determines whether planting goes smoothly or not at all.

Bring: work gloves, sturdy closed-toe boots, and a shovel, loppers or wheelbarrow if you have them. Lunch is on the Dad's Club.

Planting day

Saturday, November 14 · Sign-in 8:45am, start 9:00am · 12–15 volunteers

ReLeaf runs this one. They bring all the tools, stakes and mulch, and they'll walk everyone through planting, staking and mulching. No experience needed at all.

Bring: layers and clothes you can dig in, plus sunscreen and a hat.

Where the trees are going

All 25 sites, flagged and numbered by ReLeaf — along Howard and Walnut, through the centre of campus, and near the garden.

Aerial map of the St. Vincent de Paul campus with 25 numbered markers showing where each tree will be planted, between Howard Street and Walnut Street.

Every marker is a tree. Some spots need a little clearing. Several need stumps and root balls pulled out entirely — which is why November 7 matters so much.

Who can come

Both days are open to the whole school — moms, dads, grandparents, older students. No committee, no meetings, just a Saturday morning outdoors with other parents.

  • Lunch on the Dad's Club on the 7th
  • Hours count toward family service hours
  • 25 trees on campus that weren't there before
  • Helpers must be 14 or older — younger kids are welcome to come along with a parent, they just can't work the site

An hour counts

If you can only give an hour, give an hour. Someone who shows up at eleven and leaves at noon has still moved a stump that nobody else has to move.

The short list

Who we can count on

These dads told us to call them — a hand at an event, a truck on a Saturday, or something at school that needs a grown-up in ten minutes. Saying yes doesn't commit anyone to every event. If we call and you can't make it, that's a fine answer.

The roster

Who's in the club, what they do, and what they can help with. When an event needs a truck, a griddle, or someone who knows electrical, this is where we look first.

The roster is closed to public sign-up. To be added or to correct your entry, email Mike and we'll take care of it.

Back the club

Every dollar goes
straight to Dad's Club

The Dad's Club is its own group, separate from the school. What comes in pays for our events, materials for campus work days, and gear the club uses. We're not a registered charity, so donations aren't tax-deductible.

Sponsor an event

$200 puts your business on a banner at our events and on this site all year.

Give time instead

Twelve and a half hours a year is the ask. Work two events and you're most of the way there.

Thank you
